First Farmers State Bank was pleased to host three recent Field Day events during the month of August. Recovering from the severe 2012 drought and with some concerns about the shortage of rainfall this growing season, Mike Toohill, Jim Beck, and Rich Morrison from Diversified Services, Inc. were invited to share their expertise and observations with local producers.

The Field Days were held at the Troyer farm in rural Minier, the King farm in rural Normal, and the Zimmer farm in rural San Jose.
Mike, an agronomist with Diversified Services, discussed the challenges of the 2013 growing season, provided yield estimates, and gave an overview of the current crop status for the state of Illinois. Jim, a marketing specialist, talked about current trends in the grain market as well as strategies for marketing grain in a volatile market. Mike and Jim both spoke at the Troyer and King locations. WJBC’s Carrie Muehling was also onsite at the King farm to conduct a few interviews following the event.
